In the Garden

One of the Chinese words for garden is yuan. The image has amazing detail in it, it is made from the images, dust, breath, enclosure, person and person. This is very interesting to me because of the biblical significance here. Genesis 2:7 & 8 tell us that God made man from dust, breathed life into him and put him in a garden enclosure! The way that the person and other image for person are placed with in the image for garden, also is interesting. One person is coming from the right side of the other person. So the way the Chinese image is written is just like the story that the Bible tells us. Woman came from mans side. WOW, this gives me the chills! God is in the ancient Chinese characters, and now in my paintings. This  painting has the garden image in it, as a reminder to us that we are complete when we are in the garden with our creator. Keeping with the 6:26 ransomed theme, God created you exactly how He wants you, and you are beautiful in His image!

This next piece in the 6:26 series comes from a superchick song, well the next few ones do! I love this album, my daughter had been listening to it and reminded me of the song. She actually is the one who said it would make a good painting, maybe I should give it to her! The name of the album is ‘Rock what you got’, the song is called So Beautiful. The line that inspired this work of art goes like this…if every girl could see her beauty we would be an army. How true is that!!!! Lets all strive to SEE our BEAUTY!!! Come on ladies, let’s make that army of girls who are confident and love our selves!

Here is another one in the collection, 6:26. I think I will be donating this one to the Black and White Art Auction this fall to benefit Arts Central. I am really enjoying the direction of these pieces. It is so important for us to remember that we are created in HIS image and even though we can feel broken we are beautiful!

The last 2 weeks I have been doing some work in the public schools, so I have not had long periods of time to spend in the studio. Because of that I’ve been doing small work on paper that I can finish in a few hours. Just to stay creative outside of the classroom! Although the second graders were really fun to work with! These birds have some stitching and other things added.

I am very interested in passing on the message that ALL women are precious  in HIS sight, so no matter how you feel, you are loved. Your self-worth is not in this world or what it tells you. Again, these paintings are to remind us as girls, we are valuable! I really like this song by Switchfoot, Blinding Light. One part reads like this, “Hey girl be your self now, don’t believe what they told you to, Hey girl be yourself now, your skins more than a pin-up suit…Hey girl don’t conform now, no one else got a soul like you.” We ALL need to remember that!

I was in the garden a few days ago watching a robin redbreast splashing and playing in the bird bath. He looked so fun and happy, I had to paint him!

I have been going to a mixed media workshop the last few days, and one of the things the instructor encouraged us to do was figures. I NEVER work with the figure, so that was different. Then he told us to limit our colors and work with a new color. So I chose earth tones, I usually work in bold bright colors.  Sometimes working in a way you never do can be very free. Lets just say I was a little pleased with the results and I am going to do a few more on this theme. Today while I was working on these figures a lot of thoughts were going through my head. Because I have a teenage daughter, and there are a lot of teen girls in our house at any given time, body image is something that was going around in my head. I won’t even get into all the struggles in that area that a young lady goes through. These paintings are dedicated to ALL who struggle with that. Matt. 6:26 tells us we are VALUABLE!!! That is why these paintings will all be called 6:26! Just remember, God loves you and you are valuable.
