Quail

With the start of school and all the busyness that comes with that, I haven’t had much time to paint…or blog. I have been inspired by my students to do some painting, and the crazy quail running through my yard preparing for winter just make me smile, so I thought I would paint them…as they dance across my yard!

Finished with this one for now. I need to remember that I am trying to loosen up, and feel like the flowers are getting to tight! Time to move on to something different!

I liked the other composition of the pink carnation painting, so I decided to do another one, but with a different table cover and colors.

I changed the lavender flowers, mostly the vase and the contrast. I like it better.

I think this painting changed 5 times before I stopped and decided to just let it be for a while. I will spend some time looking at it. I’m not sure I like the color behind the vase, or maybe it is the vase color. I don’t know, but it will reveal it’s self sooner or later! I actually started with the blue in the back ground, and had different shaped flowers. But then I did some negative painting and changed the back ground. It was fun!

I recently purchased a dvd workshop by Robert Burridge, and have been trying a few new things. This is one of them, although it does go along with the abstract landscapes I was working on. I have learned to be a lot looser, and I like it!

Way too long

have been trying to paint again. Between teaching and the family, it is tough, but the last 3 weeks have been productive. I tried to go to a workshop in June, but it was full…so I bought the DVD and have been inspired! I was working on abstract landscapes, but have moved on to fruit and flowers. Here are a few that are done. I have been trying to work with color, lights against darks, for a more dramatic look.

I did this one very quickly. I would like to do it again. I like the composition, but I think I need to change some colors to create more depth. I also want to abstract it more!
